Matron Of Honor

Have I mentioned that my sister is engaged?

(My sis and her fiance at our crazy sweater party).

Her now fiance, Ben, proposed a couple of months ago!  He surprised her by getting her a half day off of work.  Then he took her out to lunch and for a walk around a lake, and he proposed right next to the water.  So sweet!  And the ring is gorgeous too.  They are getting married in March!

Anyway, of course I’m the Maid of Honor (or I guess it would be Matron of Honor, but that makes me sound so old).  I’m very excited about this.  I want to be the best MOH there ever was!

Of course, Rachel might already hold that title – she was my Maid of Honor, and she and my mom practically planned the whole wedding while I studied for my boards.  But I intend to do what I can to make this time special for my sis.

We already had one shower for her (we did a foot spa theme because it was personal shower with close family, and it turned out really fun). Her next shower (which will be for everyone, so it will be alot bigger) is coming up here in February.  I don’t think we really want to do a specific theme, because finding decorations that are so specific to a certain theme can sometime get pricey, but I do want it to be nice.  So if you see any super-cute shower ideas on Pinterest, send them my way . . .

I’m also trying to think of gifts for her showers that will be special – you know, that will stand out from the crowd.  I think I have a couple ideas, and I’ll post pictures if they turn out like I’m hoping they will, but I’m open to more suggestions.

So, I’m wondering, what are some things your Maid of Honor did for you that made your showers and wedding extra-special?  Is there anything you think would be a cool thing for the Maid of Honor to do?

I'm all ears!

  1. I'm Matron of Honor in my cousin's wedding this spring and I agree - sounds too old! I prefer Chief Married Hottie. :)

  2. My MOH put blank recipe cards in my shower invitations and asked everyone to write down a GOOD recipe that they love. Then they all added the cards to my gifts. The first gift I opened was a recipe binder that all the cards fit into! I've used so many of the recipes.

  3. Please keep blogging about this! At some point, I will be a matron of honor for my sister and I will be completely lost about what to do. :)

BTW, you two look a lot a like. I could definitely tell that you are sisters if I just saw you randomly in public.

  4. How fun!! I think the biggest thing that my bridal party/matron of honor did for me was just given me endless support! They were there for every decision to share their ideas and opinions which was great!

  5. I agree themes can get very pricey but I always go for a colour theme like her favourite colour or something? It adds a personal touch :)

  6. I was my friends Matron of Honor, but she didn't really let me do anything. I did host her bachelorette party at my house, but that was about it! We didn't really do a theme...sorry, I'm no help! You'll have a blast regardless, you guys do look SO much alike!

  8. The best thing my Maid of Honor did was pack me a wedding day survival kit it had headache medicine, flip flops, hairspray, lip gloss, and my favorite candy in it such a sweet thoughtful gesture and I'm pretty sure I used everything in there that day. I have no doubt you'll be a great MOH!

  9. You look so much like your sister! You will be a great Matron of Honor. I didn't have a MOH. Brandon and I were married in Jamaica, and it was just the 2 of us!

  10. The best thing we did for my best friend was buy thank you notes before the shower. At the shower, every guest addresses the front of an envelope- ONE less step the bride has to do! Best Idea EVER.
