Moms And Babies - Jenni

This week I’m featuring my blog friend, Jenni from Life With The Goodlins!  I found Jenni’s blog a few months ago when I was browsing through other dental hygienist blogs (through those little links in my Google profile, you know), and when I spotted her profile and realized she was a Christian too I had to comment!  I’ve loved reading about the journey of her growing family (it’s a good story – check out Jenni’s blog to read more), and it’s been so fun to get to know another hygienist in blogland!  Check out her interview below.

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am Jenni.  Last year our family went from having 1 daughter to 3 (and no I did not have twins) the story is a bit complicated, but God’s hand has continually been with our family. You can read more about it here. Currently I stay at home with my 3 girls, but I do work 1 day a week as a part-time dental hygienist (go Callie).

What are your babies’ names and how old are they?

Maya is 4, Norah is 3 and Sarah is 7 months old

Give us an idea of what a typical day looks like for you.

CRAZY! not really, but really.  The girls wake up at 7:30, yes all 3.  Well if they wake up earlier they stay in their rooms until 7:30, thanks to a wonderful Children's iPhone app called Mr. Moonlight (totally worth the $3!)  They aren't allowed out of their room until the sunshine shows on the phone.  This gives me about 30 minutes in the morning to myself (and I really need it)!

Sarah's first feeding is between 7 & 7:30, so I nurse her and Maya & Norah get to watch a show on tv.  Then we eat breakfast,  get dressed, go potty, change a diaper,  and brush hair, lots and lots of it!!  I also somehow feed Sarah some cereal mix with fruit during this. By the time all of this has happened the girls have gotten to watch two cartoons (no longer than 30 min each) and this is all the TV they get for the day (usually).
9:00 : Sarah goes down for her first nap.
I play with Maya & Norah while she naps, we read, color, do crafts, go outside, or I just play with them in their room.
11:00 ish: Sarah wakes up from her nap, and I nurse her again.
This is the time we go on a play date if possible, go on an errand, go to the health club, go to the park, or just hang out with each other.
12:00 : Maya & Norah eat lunch.
1:00: Sarah goes down for Nap # 2 & I read Norah a book and put her down for a nap.  Maya doesn't nap anymore so she get's "room time" or another activity while her sisters nap.
(I try so hard during this time to get things done, but so often I just fall asleep from pure exhaustion)
3:00 Sarah wakes up and I nurse her again.  Norah usually wakes up from her nap at this time also (again not allowed out of her room until the sun comes up at 3).
The girls have a snack.
There is usually some chaos and timeouts in the mix.
This is time of the day Maya & Norah usually dress up and do a dance party.

4:45 Sarah goes down for her last little nap.
5:30ish: We have dinner, although I have no idea when I actually prepared it.
6:00: Wake Sarah up from her last nap so she will go to bed at a reasonable hour.

6:30-7:00: Sarah gets some solid food and I nurse her.

7:00:  Bedtime routine for Norah and Maya.
7:15: Play with Sarah for a little while by herself.
7:45:  Put Sarah down for bed.
8:00:  sigh...... and Thank the Lord I have some time to myself.

If you had to choose three words to describe your baby's personality, what would they be?

Sarah is Cheerful, sociable & attentive

What's your favorite part about being a mom?

I love the way that the unexpected things are my favorite, like the silly quotes, giggles and watching them have fun.

Do you have any tips on losing the baby weight?

Like many of you have already mentioned on this blog, Breast feed!!  I have to be intentional about even eating enough to maintain my milk supply.  Every time I have  a baby I become re-obsessed with chocolate milk, although I don't think that has anything to do with weight loss.

What have you and your husband done since your baby's arrival{s} to keep your relationship strong?

We make sure that the kids go to sleep at a reasonable time so we have time together at night.  Also dates,  I have plenty of frozen breast milk pumped (about 300oz) so it is easy to leave.  I pumped most of it when Sarah was born ( when I had an abundance of milk) it is so convenient to have that milk nowWe also laugh a lot, it helps!

Are there any must-have products that you would recommend to other moms?

For Sarah I have loved having a velcro on blanket to cover her car seat, it has been amazing, and stays on way better than just covering her car seat with a regular blanket!  Someone made it for me, but I know you can buy them from ETSY.   I love the hooter hider also.

What has been your favorite moment or outing as a family so far?

Swimming together at Villa.  All 3 girls love the pool, so it is so much fun! Sarah basically floats and smiles the entire time!

Any advice for first-time mothers?

Babywise, it is such a great book!

And if your baby gets attached to a blanket, buy another one just like it!  You always need a back up, while one is in the wash, or lost. It is totally worth having another!

And lastly, enjoy the time with just having 1 baby!  I look back and wonder how I ever thought I was busy now that we have 3, wished I would have cherished those days a little better.

Thanks Jenni!  Doesn’t she have the sweetest little family?  Stop by and say hello to her here!
