I'm 22 weeks pregnant this week! I know I've had a lot of pregnancy-related posts this week, but I have to keep caught up on the belly updates, so bear with me!
Obviously the biggest thing this week is that we found out we're having a sweet baby GIRL! We are so excited and happy! Now I'm anxious to get to Joann's and pick out some fabric for my little girl's quilt! I made Wyatt's crib bedding, so I want to make hers too.
Our sweet girl was measuring great on the ultrasound, and there were no red flags or concerns with any of her organs or body structures - that is a huge blessing! Her size was estimated to be in the 55th percentile, so right about average, and she weighed 1 lb., 1 oz! It crazy to realize we've passed the pound mark. So exciting!
According to the pregnancy websites, she can sense light and dark now, and she is busy swallowing and tasting the amniotic fluid. She has developed her sense of touch, so she might be feeling the uterine wall, placenta, etc, with her little hands! It was actually really cute on the ultrasound when the tech was trying to get a profile shot, she looked like she was "kissing" the placenta - I guess I just never really thought about my baby interacting with her little environment like that, so it was neat to see!
I'm feeling great! I still get a little back pain if I'm on my feet for long periods of time, and the heartburn has kicked up a notch the last few weeks, but that's pretty much it.
Still feeling lots of movement, which is still my favorite part! I think I might have even felt her hiccup a couple times, and I never felt that with Wyatt until the last few weeks, so that's fun! Ever since I started feeling her move though I just felt like the movements weren't as strong or distinct as they were with Wyatt . . . and on the ultrasound they confirmed that I do have an anterior placenta. Which means the placenta is sitting on the front wall of my uterus and is kind of cushioning her movement a little, so it's not as distinct. I'm surprised that I started feeling her as early as I did considering that! I just haven't had the really visible-from-the-outside movements so far like I did with Wyatt, and I think the anterior placenta is the reason.
Aside from that, I've ordered another set of cloth diapers (some in girly colors and prints!), and I'm excited to see how it goes starting it earlier this time around! I really want to go clothes shopping, but I'm resisting, because I'm sure I'll be getting lots of cute clothes as gifts. But I'm still planning on buying a few things here and there! As for nursery plans - I think that's an entirely separate post, but I've made a couple purchases to prepare for that as well.
We are so excited about our baby girl! I would have been just as excited if we were expecting a boy, but I think it's just exciting in a different way because everything is so different than last time. I know how it is to be pregnant with and have a little boy (and I love, love, love being a boy mom), but I don't know how it is to have a daughter yet. It kind of makes everything new and different again, and it's fun!
I'm also looking forward to seeing Derek with a daughter - the thought already melts my heart. He is such a wonderful dad to Wyatt - I know he will teach him how to be a good man, and I can already imagine how great he will be with our baby girl. When he found out it was a girl he was grinning from ear-to-ear, but he also had some of those same feelings that I had with Wyatt - I was thrilled and excited, but also nervous, hoping I could be a good mom to a little boy. I think Derek had those same feelings of hoping he could be a good dad to a girl - which tells me right there he is going to be amazing! I can't wait.
Thank you all for your congratulations on our girl! We feel so blessed!
By the way, on the baby gender poll, 65% (44 out of 67 votes) thought I was having a girl! Good job on guessing right!
