Book Vacation: Check

So my passport finally came! I was so happy, because that finally allowed us to book a vacation.

Let me just say that Priceline has the best everyday prices on vacation packages, flights, or whatever. Derek and I were able to find a pretty good deal on a great vacation.

So without further ado . . . we're going on a Caribbean cruise!

I'm so excited! I've never been on a cruise, and I've never been to the Caribbean. Derek and I went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and we just loved it, so we were looking at another tropical vacation.

We searched for cruises, and we found a nine-day cruise to the eastern Caribbean for a pretty reasonable price! And the nice part is that it departs not too far from where Derek's brother and sister-in-law live, so we'll be able to spend a couple days with them too.

The cruise will be stopping here (Puerto Rico):

And here (Dominican Republic):

And here (St. Thomas):

Plus a stop at the cruise line's private island in the Caribbean.

I'm so excited! I'm ready to soak up some sun during the second half of May!

So I need travel tips. Have any of you ever been on a cruise? Been to the Caribbean? Live in a Caribbean-like climate?

Anything that I must bring? Any charges or freebies I should be aware of?

I eagerly await any tips you can give me.

Wow that looks great! Somehow, living in FL I've never been on a cruise, but it is something I've always wanted to do.
As far as the tropical climate, figure out what type of sun care you need...and bring it! Find something that is oil free AND waterproof/sweatproof in order to keep your pores clear and not lose it! That's my advice!

I'm so excited for you! My only two cents on the matter would be to purchase something like this:

I had one on our trip to Hawaii and wished I had three more! It was so easy to throw over my swimsuit, yet plenty thick enough to look like a real "dress." I shopped in it, dined in it, and walked the beach in it. It was simply perfect and so comfortable!

Have fun planning!!!

I don't know if you get carsick or motionsick at all, but if you do, you might want to look into the motionsickness patch that they have for cruises. My mom used that last time they went on a cruise, and she said it worked great! Have fun! I want to see pictures! And I plan to email you back soon...sorry. I know I'm a slacker!

Oh what fun! I've been on a cruise only once and it was so much fun. I went with some girl friends & my mom and we had an absolute blast! for tips, just soak up everything. I would rent a taxi for the day on St. Thomas and have them take you on a personal guided tour. It's a beautiful island and you should get a much better price & tour without a huge mob of people from the cruise ship. You might be able to find some great recommendations on Trip Advisor as well--I love that site when I'm planning vacations!

Congratualtions! How exciting! I can hardly wait to see pictures.

*The only thing I know you should expect on a cruise is (and i learned this from a friend) that you have to purchase a "card" that is used when you check in for dinners and stuff, and the money you put on that card automatically tips the personnel (like the Maitre De gets 20%). You can elect to not do that so you can tip accordingly if you want. She said on her cruise it was $500/person for the card, so they elected not to do that and will tip the personnel in cash.

Wow, I think you guys will have an amazing time! I have never experienced any of that, so I can't really answer your questions or help out...but I'm sure no matter what, it will be wonderful!

oh have so much fun! I have been on 2 cruises, 1 to British Columbia/Vancouver, and another in the Mexican Riviera. I recommend you fill out all your documents online and not have to wait in the line of people who didn't do that. Excursions are a great thing to do, but can get pricey, so pick things that you have never done before. You can book them with the cruise or once you dock, there will be tons of local companies that will offer cheaper prices. The only issue with the local companies is that if something were to happen (like the shuttle, van, etc. they take you on from point a to point B breaking down) then the ship won't wait on you. If it is one of your ship's excursions they will wait on you.

Have so much fun! It's a great way to vacation!
