Finishing the Basement

Drumroll, please . . .

Derek and I are finishing our basement this Spring!

Our house is a raised ranch, and it has an unfinished basement. When we bought it the basement had a rough-in for a bathroom, so basically we have to put up the wall, sheet rock and paint the walls, pick out all the stuff for the bathroom and get that put together, and put carpet in.

It'll be really nice when we're done, because it'll add a laundry room, a coat closet, a family room, a master bathroom, and two other rooms down there that we'll use for bedrooms! They aren't officially bedrooms because they won't have closets, but still. It'll double our square footage and put alot of equity into the house, so we're pretty excited.

Derek is doing alot of the work himself (I'm so glad that I have a husband who can do that stuff), and my dad works in the construction business, so he's helping us alot too. We're going to pay my dad for his help, but even so, we're saving alot on the labor by doing it this way, so it'll be great!

I introduce to you the first of my "Renovation Diaries". Basically my own little version of a home improvement show - only I'm not really giving out tons of tips, just showing you the progress of our own renovation story.

I can assure you that at some future point you'll see me freaking out about what tile to pick for the bathroom, because I'm already freaking out about it - and I'll try to extend these Diaries through the decorating process, which is where my expertise will come in (the construction part of it is Derek's job, then I get the "making it livable" part).

I hope you enjoy my antics in these videos! Not the greatest quality, and definitely not professional, but I know you'll still be my friends anyway! In my defense for this first video, I really couldn't tel how dark it was down there through my camera, and I filmed at night because that was the only time I could do it - so, yeah. That's my excuse. Without further ado:

Ah! That's so exciting! I can't wait to have a house so I can have something to decorate. Having that much unfinished space would be a blast!

That's going to be awesome! Your own little private abode downstairs, very cool! And of course, I love the nursery talk. ;) Our baby is at the other end of the house which took me FOREVER to get used to, but it's all good now.
Good luck on the tile, I think it's one of the hardest things to decide on!

What a fun video -- although I must admit, I'm a wee bit jealous of your future master bathroom! LOL
