From The Mouths of Babes

One of the best parts of my job is getting to work with children. Sometimes they can be a handful, and a little difficult to work with, but most of the time they are so much fun.

One of my favorites is a little girl that was adopted from China. We'll call her Ellie. She is one of the most articulate little three year olds I've ever seen, and so adorable. She chatters away whenever I work on her mom's teeth, and sometimes she'll come over to just stand by the chair and hold her mom's hand.

She says some of the funniest things too. She's very smart, and just so curious about everything around her.

Every time I pick up a new instrument she asks, "What is that?" I responded to her question one time and said that it was an instrument called an explorer. "Like Dora!" she exclaimed.

(Apparently we have the "Dora the Explorer: A Visit To The Dentist" book in our waiting room. A very thorough introduction to the dental world, and great before the first dental visit, by the way.)

At the end of her mother's last visit, after my boss had done the dental exam, Ellie was sitting on her mother's lap, and looked seriously at Dr. Gilbert (name has been changed for privacy's sake). "Are you a mommy?" she asked.

"No, not yet," my boss replied. Ellie's eyes turned to look at me. "Callie's not a mommy yet either," Dr. Gilbert explained.

Ellie squinted her eyes and turned to look at her mom. "Why, Mommy? Why aren't they mommy's yet?" she asked innocently.

Hmmm, my question exactly.

Dr. Gilbert turned to me with laughter in her eyes, "I guess we need to get moving and get some mommy's in this office!" That made me laugh.

As soon as I can become a mommy, I'll get right on that, Ellie!

I feel ya, girl! I'm having issues and am just as frustrated. I've had numerous people suggest seeing a Naturpath. I'm going to see my gyno in a couple weeks to give her a chance, but if I don't like her methods (like if she just wants to give me medication to make me ovulate, not find the solution to the problem) then I'm off to the Naturopath!

That's such a sweet story. I know how you must feel. Trust me! I really do! We didn't have the easiest time getting pregnant either, and there were days at a time when I felt like I was never going to get pregnant. And I know it doesn't help either to see everyone and their dog getting pregnant around you... But don't give up hope. God makes miracles everyday! I know he did with me. You would make a wonderful Christian mommy. Never give up hope!

hahaha! That's so funny! I've had kids say that to me too. A little girl from my church said:
"Do you have kids yet?"
"Why not?"
