Pirate Tattoos, Argh! Cruise Recap Part Two

The next day we ported in St. Thomas! The water was so beautiful and blue.

Unfortunately we didn't get to see much of the island, because we didn't want to spend the money to hire a taxi to explore a little bit more, and even if we did, we didn't have time before our excursion. So we just got off the boat and went souvenir shopping in the morning. There were a bunch of gift shops on St. Thomas, and I knew that would probably be the last chance to get a souvenir, so we just explored the shops a little bit. I wish we had been able to see more of the island, but that's okay. Next time maybe!

Here we are on the shuttle to the shops.

Beautiful blue . . .

Here we are again.

A picture of all the boats in the harbor. For some reason that boats in the water just struck me as so pretty this trip, so you'll see alot of boats.

Derek took this picture of me - I don't know if I've ever looked that good in a picture before. Nice job, Babe!

Before our snorkeling excursion! I've never been snorkeling before, so I was pretty excited (and a little nervous). The sun was really bright - can you tell I'm squinting in this picture?

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of snorkeling. if there's one thing I would do over again, it would be to bring a water-proof camera. I couldn't take any pictures in the water with my digital, becuase it would have been ruined, and we had lots of opurtunities for good water pictures, so I'm a little bummed out. Oh well.

We went snorkeling with the sea turtles! They were so cute. They just swam around on the bottom of the ocean until they needed air, and one of them surfaced within five or six feet of Derek and me! Their little heads were so cute. We went snorkeling in this cove where the turtles live until they are big enough to swim further out in the ocean.

We saw some sting rays too, but they stayed near the bottom of the water, so it wasn't too scary.

We also got to see cute little tropical fish living in some coral, and we had a chance to hold a sea urchin! But I couldn't bring myself to do it. I was afraid I would scream and drop it, then everyone would laugh at me and then get mad because they didn't get a chance to hold it before I dropped it. So I didn't hold it. But Derek did, and he said it just felt like holding a hairbrush.

It moved a little on his hand. It gives me the shivers just thinking about it. I have problems with spiny, spidery-looking things. But it was exciting and really cool to be in the water with all those different creatures.

I got sunscreen and salt water in my eyes though. Not a good combination. But it was worth it.

Here we are after snorkeling, with me looking like something the whale spit out. I learned my lesson on this excursion and brought make-up remover facial clothes at subsequent water excursions, so that it wouldn't be so much work removing mascara from under my eyes.

The ship from our snorkeling boat.

The excursion guides gave everyone pirate tattoos after snorkeling! Don't worry, they're not real, though the next day our couple friends from our dinner table thought mine was real. I think they were impressed that I had a rebellious side, but then I ruined their new image of me by telling them it was fake. Sorry people, I'm just not rebellious (and I'm okay with that).

Derek got his on his calf:

And I got mine on my ankle:

Argh!

It ended all too soon, and we sailed away from St. Thomas that evening. Here we are on the deck of the ship.

That evening we also got our picture taken by a professional photographer on the ship. They turned out really well! Except that I wasn't thrilled with my hair in them, but it didn't look too bad, and how often do you get your picture taken professionally? So we ended up buying two pictures for an exorbitant amount of money. But I think it was worth it, and I just need to get some frames so I can hang them on the wall. I'll try to take pictures of the pictures so you guys can see too.

Next up is the Dominican Republic! This is by far the most entertaining story, so stay tuned.
