Auf Wiedersehen, Word Verification!

I'm discontinuing the word verification.

Why? Because I'm moderating comments anyway, and the word verification thing is dumb. I know I got spam comments before, but I can wade through them in the comment moderation.

I am making this sacrifice for you, my readers, particularly those readers who comment.

Why? Because I've been having a crazy time with commenting on other people's blogs lately, because of that blasted word verification. I think maybe my computer is just getting slow, but it's taking forever for each commenting page and word verification to load, and I'm rather tired of it.

I'm a rather determined type, so that hasn't deterred me from posting my comment. Once I start something, I finish it, even if it is a pain.

But it occurred to me that there may be those of you out there who are not as stubborn as I, and who might give up after waiting five minutes for the stupid word verification to go through. And the thought that I may be missing out on good comments because of that? Not if I can help it.

Word verification plus comment moderation is just overkill anyway, but I jumped off the bridge a few months ago when those spammers started bothering me.

But now I'm back on the bridge, at least halfway, and I'll be bidding the word verification adieu. So say hello to a faster and more pleasant commenting experience! (For those lurkers out there, now would be a great time to comment, because the system is so much more cooperative now.)

There you go - comment away! Bonus points if you can correctly count how many times the phrase "word verification" was used in this post.

Or if you can correctly identify the foreign language I used to say "goodbye!" (though that one is rather obvious if you've ever seen the Sound of Music).

Auf Wiedersehen,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. All the Blogger-hosted blogs I've been reading have been driving me crazy with this lately. I have to push "Submit" like 3 times just to get my comment published.

Just a little plug... Wordpress has much better spam moderation. :)

Your word verification is still up right now... hmmm.

Definitely want to know how this goes for you. I've still got word verification set up, becaues everytime I disable it about 50 bazillion spammer comments show up! And I'm too lazy to weed through them!

Hooray!!! I'm w/ ya. Hate those little strangely spelled/displayed words. Here's to lots more comments ;-) "So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye...I hate to go and leave this pretty site" TGIF!

Let me know how it goes! My computer is pretty fast so it doesn't bother me (yet,) and provides some entertainment with the words it comes up with, but I totally get it, and appreciate it!

I'm not a huge fan of that either, and thankfully I've never had any spams yet. But thanks for thinking of us!

Yay! Goodbye word verification! I have it on mine still, but I might just moderate instead. We shall see.

Yay!! word verification drives me crazy!! I don't have it on my blog and I never get spam. Knock on wood. :) I just don't allow anon comments so maybe that's why I don't get spam?

Awesome! You're right, if you're moderating comments there really is no reason for word verification. (I don't moderate comments, so I think my blog has word verification...) But word verifications can get so frustrating! Half the time I can't even read what the words are suppose to be...and have you ever been on a website where you have the option to listen to the word??? It's even worse.
