Speeding Ticket

I got my first speeding ticket over the weekend.

My sister and I were on our way home from Hazel's house, and we took an exit into this little town to get some gasoline. We had to drive a couple miles to get into town.

I exited onto this wide open road. To be honest, I wasn't even thinking about how fast I was going, except for maybe a niggling thought in the recesses of my mind.

The road was wide and open, I had just been going 65 mph on the interstate, I didn't see a speed limit sign (though later we found it - I just missed it). So the the fact that I was going too fast never matured into an actual thought. Probably didn't help that I was sleep deprived.

Okay, I'm just making excuses now. But I just want you to know that I didn't do it on purpose.

I won't tell you how many miles per hour over the speed limit I was going. That would just be embarrassing. Just suffice it to say that the cop that stopped me dropped my ticket down from a four-pointer to a one-pointer. And I now owe that sleepy little county seventy dollars.

I think I held up very well when talking to the officer. It was only after he was gone and I called Derek that I started bawling.

Then the cop drove by again, and I'm sure he saw me crying, so all my bravery was probably for naught.

Pregnancy hormones and first speeding tickets don't mix.

The whole situation made me feel like an incredibly irresponsible driver. And I hate feeling immature or irresponsible - chalk it up to my perfectionist tendencies. Yes, they even apply to myself.

Well, I'm not perfect, and it's alway painful when I have to be reminded of that. I can accept not being perfect as a person - nobody is, and Jesus died to save me because I'm not, so that thought isn't quite so bad. But the thought that I'm not perfect at doing something always makes me feel depressed.

Every time I do something stupid behind the wheel, I'm reminded that I'm not a perfect driver, and that just makes me feel about two feet tall.

Please tell me some of you have gotten a speeding ticket?

P.S. Books, Brooks, and Me is having a fabulous giveaway for a Barnes and Noble giftcard! Maybe if I win it will make me feel better. You should all head over there and check it out.

I had a speeding ticket once but I wasn't actually speeding. I had just pulled out of a parking lot and I immediately got pulled over. I wasn't even up to normal speed yet.
But I was too lazy to fight the ticket.

I got a speeding ticket in a school zone - which I didn't realize was in effect since the lights were not flashing. I was going about 3 above the normal speed limit...suffice it to say, I paid for more seventy bucks!

I haven't yet, but I'm sure it's bound to happen! I feel bad for you! Sounds like that could have happened to anyone. Coming off of a highway onto a wide open road would mess with me as well!

Aw, you poor thing! I would bawl too if I had gotten a ticket while pregnant. I have gotten 3 in my life so far, I think.

Honestly, I have done so many out of the ordinary things during my pregnancy, I am surprised I haven't gotten a ticket in these 31 weeks. We all make mistakes and this is a time when the brain isn't functioning up to par. Don't feel bad! Just pay your dues and move on!

I got one and ended up paying a lawyer to reduce it to "improper equipment." Being in the insurance industry, I know what a speeding ticket can do to my premium!

I had a speeding ticket once but I had it revoked. I was driving down a road doing 10 mph over the limit the but speed sign was covered by bushes so I could not see it.

I still felt stupid though, I was going over the limit in a small town so I should have used my common sense!

I got pulled over once for doing 72 in a 55. Ouch. But the cop felt bad for me because I told him (in near tears) that I was just trying to get home after being in class from 7:30am to 10pm and that I just had the worst day ever (which I did), and he only gave me a ticket for not having my insurance card up to date...which was just a matter of replacing the card. Ugh. I had to pay a hefty fine for my forgetfulness but thankfully no points on my license.

I totally would've used the pregnancy excuse if I were you though! And don't feel bad...it really happens to everyone.

Get this: I was going 15 over the speed limit, and I didn't have my license and all I got was a warning. Yeah, lucky. And I was pulled over 2 other times with just warnings, so I am probably due for one.

Don't feel bad! We all have moments like that when we just don't realize how fast we are going. I do it a lot when I get off the Interstate, because it's hard to readjust to going like 35 after going about 75! I haven't gotten pulled over yet, but I think that's just because I haven't gotten caught. I definitely find myself accidentally speeding a lot more often than I'd like to admit.

I've gotten 2. I totally cried in front of the officer for my first. And I can totally relate with that feeling you are describing. I HATE it when I do something dumb. Don't worry though, it will all be a distant memory one day :)

Don't worry...my hubby has received enough for the both of us! I won't embarrass him and tell you how many...but it's a lot. Needless to say, we pay an arm and a leg for our auto insurance.

Getting pulled and getting tickets is just a part of life! And it's always bound to happen at the most inopportune time.

I got a ticket once in a construction zone. They had speed cameras set up, so there wasn't even an actual cop there. The sign said 60 when passing workers, but they weren't working that day, so I was going the regular speed. Apparently that was wrong. I've also rear-ended someone, which is infinitely worse than getting a speeding ticket. So don't feel too bad about it! But I think you did handle it good, considering your pregnancy hormones and all!

I've never had a speeding ticket, but a couple of weeks ago, I nearly killed a guy who was about to cross the crosswalk. He swore at me, and I pretty much swore at myself.

I was going too fast to apologize, but I wish I could have told him that I'm not one of those jerks behind the wheel who think they own the road. I had a stupid moment, and I hope I never do that again!

aww i'm sorry!! that is the worst feeling..I have had one speeding ticket and I bawled like a baby! I'm glad he was some what nice to you.

no speeding ticket, but I got pulled over for being stupid. I'd had a bad day at work, and was on the verge of tears. Wasn't paying attention while I was merging, almost hit someone and over swerved. A cop saw the whole thing!

oh dear, you poor thing! I've been lucky thus far but...I count that more as God's grace than my poise behind the wheel and common sense! It's so hard on the open road! We have a lot of that out our way too and people will go 65-70 when the speed limit is 35!

Yes, yes, yes, I've gotten a speeding ticket - for going a whopping 30 mph! But since the speed limit was allegedly 25, I WAS speeding. Worst driving day of my life.- Feel your pain girl :-)
