Christmas Shopping For Men

The weather has finally turned cold. And when I say cold, I mean bitterly cold. It's as if we went from summer weather to winter weather in the span of one week.

The colder weather has definitely put me in the mood for Christmas shopping. I'm trying to be proactive this year and get my shopping done early - you'll remember how I went Christmas shopping in June with my sister.

It feels good to get people crossed off the list so early. But as I find my mind turning more in that direction, I find myself in a dilemna.

I have no idea what to get the men in my family. It's so easy to find gifts for the ladies - bath stuff, good books, candles, clothes, shoes, accessories. Piece of cake.

Men, on the other hand, are not so simple. There are so many things that some men may like and other men may not, so it's not like you can just buy one blanket item and have every man like it.

And of course, they never tell you what they would like for Christmas. I've been bugging Derek to make me a list for months now, and I asked my dad the other day what he wanted, and he couldn't give me many ideas off the top of his head either.

I know there's got to be something they want. Maybe they just don't recognize it until they see it unwrapped on Christmas morning.

Like I said, I'm stuck. Anyone have any good suggestions as I head out in the cold today?

Men are so hard to shop for.

P.S. Incidentally, I got the image for this post from GiftIdeaPros.com, - a website dedicated to gift ideas! I may have to research this further . . .

Most of the guys in my life hunt, fish, golf, or drink coffee. Most of my gits revolve around something related to one of the above, even if it's just a gift card so they can buy what they want.

I agree that men are really hard to shop for I never feel very creative with them!

Yes! Men are SO hard to shop for! I usually let my hubby decide on the man gifts, but we usually go with some cool flashlight, a nifty little tool, leather work gloves, etc...you know, manly stuff like that. My dad also loves coffee, so sometimes we'll get him a gift card to his favorite coffee place too.

My husband side of the family is easy: reading, coffee, fishing, or outdoor-sy stuff.

My side? Eh, not so much. Clothes are always tricky as my brothers are more picky than me. I'm getting them gift cards to old navy/starbucks. As for my Dad..I still have no idea!

I have been on Andrew to make me a list too...and he has come up with nothing so far.

Men are just plain difficult to shop for!

Ugh. I totally agree!
We are planning on doing one blanket item for our dads & my brother. A personalized frosted beer mug. All of them like to enjoy the occasional beer around the house or when grilling out, etc. and we thought that would be a fun use for them. As for my husband...NO idea! I got him a beard & mustache trimmer the other day because he really wanted one and other than that I have nothing. Why do they have to be so hard?!?

I also find it SO hard to shop for guys. Especially my husband. Let me know if you get any good ideas!

Men ARE hard to shop for! My husband can never think of anything when someone asks him for a wish list.

And the things he DOES come up with are things that no one is going to buy him: a house, a truck, a gun, a bigger tv, a jeep, a pool table....he's a dreamer.

I'm giving my dad a bunch of board games that are like scrabble since he's a scrabble fanatic. all the other men are getting gift cards to favorite restaurants.

so far Hubs is getting a new wallet, tools, under armour, hockey bag, a few wii games, mad men season sets and a couple of mens devotional/christian type books. Other ideas include music/cds/itunes giftcards, food, sports gear (always a home run), comfy clothes-i'm debating getting some flannel pajamas and comfy long sleeve shirts.

I always try to do things that are wanted and needed. In years past, I've gotten everything from shoes, slippers, a coat, scarves, hats, gloves, winter boots, stuff for his car (tire gauge, battery starter), hockey sticks, seasons of the office and everybody loves raymond, an old school nintendo with all his beloved games from his childhood, burned cds...I could go on and on.

I reserve the smaller, more inexpensive tools and gadgets for his stocking, usually I do lindt and godiva chocolates mixed with small tools, gloves, scarf, an ornament (family tradition) and other smaller under a certain $ amount type stuff.

oh also, tickets! Everything from sporting events to shows...one time I did a whole bunch of vouchers for the batting cages. Another year when we were low on money I gave him a whole bunch of coupons that could be redeemed for surprise dates planned exclusively by me.

Last year I bought my brother some noise cancelling headphones. I searched amazon for some good ones that had really good reviews and ended up getting a really good deal! (I'm all about the deals). He loves them! And he can take them into the library or wear them when he's mowing.
I also bought my hubby some frisbee golf discs and bowling shoes so that we could go do those activities for cheap anytime. The shoes have already paid for themselves and frisbee golf is free to play anytime now!
This year... I got nothin. I'm right there with ya. Boys... *sigh*

I know your pain!! Gift cards for my dad is usually what I do (sometimes)..but anything fishing related he likes too. THANKFULLY the only men I have to buy for is Damon and my dad..so I don't have it too awefully bad!! Damons definately not as hard to buy for..he just tends to pick out some of the most expensive things out there!
