Snow, Baby Quilts, And Christmas Music

It's snowing today. The weather finally cooled down this week, and I'm finally able to enjoy the sweaters and soup that I was missing before.

I love snow. Well, I admit that around April I get sick of it, just like everyone else, but earlier in the winter, I just love it. It makes me want to bake, sew, knit, or do some other homey thing, light all the candles in the house (which I already did), and play some Christmas music!

Maybe I'll break down and create a Christmas Pandora station today, even though I usually have a strict no-Christmas-music-before-November rule. The snow is just putting me in the mood. My sister and Derek would be so proud of me.

You know what else snow puts me in the mood for? Christmas shopping! I don't know why, but I love shopping when it's snowing outside. Maybe I can talk Derek into a dinner/movie/shopping trip later.

I finally borrowed my mom's sewing machine this week, and now I'm itching to get some fabric to practice with. This baby has made me want to sew some stuff, even though I never had such a desire before. My sister was the seamstress in our family. I was the baker. I think we've switched roles as of late, because she can make a mean chocolate chip cookie, and now I want to sew. What is the world coming to?

I'm going to attempt a baby quilt, but I was thinking that maybe I should make an easier project first, just as a refresher. Maybe a cute little throw pillow, or something like that? I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to make a pillow.

I've always been a big fan of color. This is why I was so determined to branch out when it comes to wall colors. I love picking out colors for the blog. And oil painting appeals to me because of all the beautiful colors. So I think I could have alot of fun with a baby quilt. I'll keep you updated as the project develops.

And the snow just continues to fall . . .

Oh Callie! Can I come for a snowy visit? It's 80 degrees here at the moment (boo)! I agree...snow is just so incredibly cozy, and just makes you want to do all things domestic and holiday! - Oh, and on your last post, I think gender reveal parties are a GREAT idea! So fun! I'm all about any excuse for a party (hosting OR attending), and I also really appreciate when people tell you the gender of their baby. I think it's kind of obnoxious when they won't (what is it about that? "I know something that you don't know, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha"...left over from 2nd grade??). It is just NOT fun to shop for an "IT", I'm sorry! But it's lovely to start getting to know "he or she" before they make their grand entrance! Look forward to hearing all about what you have planned!

Wow....snow on October 12th. We'll be lucky to get ONE good snowfall here in this city where it is currently 80 degrees out. Sigh...I hope to move back north one day.

And I have been shamelessly listening to the Michael W. Smith and Michael Buble Christmas stations on Pandora since September. Christmas is such a short season, why not get an early start? :]

Where abouts do you live girlie? Here in Canada, namely Calgary (the coldest place around)it has yet to snow and I am shocked! And a little jealous of your snow.

I haven't seen snow since the beginning of January 2009, when I moved to Florida! I miss it dearly and hope to see some this winter since we'll be visiting my family in Ohio.

What a cozy-sounding day. :)

Ok, I'm SUPER jealous of the snow. It's 54 degrees here :( Too warm. No snow for us until December/January usually.

Can't wait to see how your quilt comes along! I'll have to show you the fabrics I'm using for mine :). I already have them picked out...I'll just switch out a color when we find out what it is.

Pillows are relatively easy, so that's a good first project. Actually, I have a good, easy pattern for one. I'll email it to you!

Crazy that it is snowing there! It's 80 here. I have a feeling it will be a while before it snows. Also, I can't wait to see what you end up sewing for your little babe. You'll have to share with us :)

Quilts are so much fun to make! I would recommend strip quilting for your first quilt. Eleanor Burns has a good book for it. Good luck and have fun!!

It would so cool if you sew a baby quilt. I still have mine from when I was born and it is such a special keepsake :)

I can't believe it's snowing there already! I have a no-Christmas-music-until-November policy too, but usually end up slipping up a time or two! Haha... Can't wait to hear more about your baby quilt
