Baby Update - 26 Weeks

Time for the 26 Week pregnancy update! Although I'm a little late posting this, so by the time you read this I'll be almost 27 weeks.

General News

I had a doctor's appointment this week, and everything looks good! Babykins heartbeat was about 147 bpm. The doctor couldn't tell how he was positioned, because it's still too early. I grilled her about a bunch of different things (I feel bad because I bombarded her with so many questions this time), including what pain management is available for labor, so now I know about that.

And I passed my one-hour glucose tolerance test with flying colors! I'm also not anemic at all. It's nice to know everything is looking good there.

I also asked her about that weird thing that happened the other week, where I couldn't breath for 30 seconds or so and then my heart started pounding. I told her that it seems like my heart will flutter funny every now and then too.

She said heart palpitations are normal, but she was rather puzzled about the incident with my difficulty in breathing and strong pounding of my heart. She said it's probably okay since it just happened that once, but if it happens again that I should call them, because I might need monitoring. That's what's happening there, so we'll just be praying it doesn't happen again.

The most exciting thing that's happened is that we've decided on a hospital! It sounds like a really good one - the only thing we're bummed about is that they only provide one meal for Derek, and we have to pay for additional meals. But we figure we'll just recruit family and friends to bring him fast food, because he doesn't want to leave me in the hospital by myself.

However, the NICU is great, and the security seems solid, which are the two things I'd be most concerned about. They also have a "jacuzzi room" in case I want to try the water thing, so I thought that was a nice perk.

I'm glad we've finally decided, because it seems to me that if something goes wrong, it most likely goes wrong at or after 28 weeks - so I wanted to make a decision before then, just to be prepared.

Now I'm looking forward to getting my paperwork in and scheduling a "birthday wishes" consult. This hospital offers a program that allows you to meet with a labor and delivery nurse to discuss your expectations out of labor, and how you'd like things to go. Then they have it when you come in and they try their best to make your "wishes" happen. I think that's a really cool thing they offer, and we're going to take advantage of it.

I've started thinking more about labor too, and trying to develop my "birth plan". I know alot of you girls who are pregnant have yours figured out already, and I feel like a slacker! More on that in a different post.

We've also been narrowing down names that we like - we're down to about 50 names now. I'm in the process of looking up the meanings at this point, and then we'll narrow it down further.

I found these adorable outfits at Babies-R-Us for five dollars each, and I just couldn't resist. March is our most snowy month, after all, so I want the little man to stay warm!

Aren't the little bear feet so cute? The other one says "Daddy's MVP" on the pocket, which I thought was adorable. And they are so soft . . .

Babykins

Baby Boy can open and close his eyes now. He should be about 9-10 inches from head to bottom, and weighs about 2 lbs! The placenta is as big as he is now.

I also read that he most definitely can hear my voice at this point (there seems to be some contradiction about when that actually happens), and I'm determined to start singing to him.

He moves quite a bit, though he does go through energy spurts - some days he won't sit still, and other days he's really quiet in there. I get kind of freaked out when he doesn't move for a while, but the Lord has been really kind in answering my prayers for movement. I just like to know he's okay in there, and if he's kicking, he's okay.

I've been trying to catch him on video (you can very clearly see him move from the outside now), but I haven't got a good enough video to share yet.

I've been feeling him alot higher up now, so I know he must be getting bigger! I've started to feel his kicks anywhere from right under my ribs, to way down low (weirdest feeling ever)! I was a little nervous that his kicking down low might cause me to dilate or something, but the doctor said it was fine.

Me

I'm feeling really good! I never know what to tell people when they ask how I'm feeling, because there really is nothing to report. I'm getting fatter. But I'm sure they can see that for themselves.

The back aches have been improving, mainly because Derek does such a good job of working the knots out. It's like having my own masseuse. He's so sweet to be so willing to give me back rubs, and try to make me comfortable - I'm a lucky lady!

And now to the part that I know you all skip to anyway . . . the belly pictures! Here I am at 26 weeks. The outdoors shots weren't working because of the time of day and lighting, so I'm going to show you the indoor ones this time.

Okay, okay, just one outside one!

We'll be starting the third trimester with the next update! Pretty exciting stuff . . .

Wow wow wow! That's so neat that you get to choose a hospital and have a "birth plan." That's not how it works here... you just go in and have your baby, lol, no questions asked!

pshaw girl I am a week behind you and I haven't even thought about my birth plan moreso than to say "she's in there she's gotta come out" I did finally read the last chapters of my pregnancy books dealing with labor and delivery last night.

Your looking great Callie! So exciting that your getting your plans in order..makes things really seem 'real' when the hospital talk starts..doesn't it? Can't wait to hear what name you guys eventually pick out..I know it'll be great!

You're looking cuuuute! Best advice I ever got about birth plans was to be flexible about them. Go with the flow. I think it's great they offer a program where you can go in and tell them what you'd like your birth experience to be like. Much easier to do it before than when all you can think about is how you want an epidural, and you want one NOW. :P

oooh i like your top! is it maternity or just long? i need more long tops, my normal shirts are getting too short and believe me, no one wants to see that!

oh and p.s. i have NO birth plan as of yet and only had two hospitals to choose from and one was just built last year so that made the decision fairly easy or else i probably wouldn't have decided on that either! i've been a procrastinator with pretty much everything baby related except the shopping.

50 names?! Whoa! I don't think we considered more than a handful of names for each gender. But I guess I'm super picky in that regard. I was afraid at one point that I wouldn't like any names from our baby name book! And I didn't want to have to invent one...

You look amazing at 26 weeks. :)

you look so cute and you are totally not getting fatter! I am excited to hear that everything looks good and I will be praying that you won't have another incident.

You look great, Callie! And just so you know, I didn't skip to the pictures! I read every word :) You sound so organized! Way to go, Momma! With my first I didn't even attempt a birth plan... I was the typical clueless woman in labor!!! Good for you! It's so good to educate yourself... I wish I had done that more before having my first. Those outfits are ADORABLE! Can't wait to see pictures of your little man WEARING those!
