Nine Months Pregnant

Thirty-six weeks! I am now, officially, nine months pregnant! Boy, that's weird to think about. I actually imagined myself alot bigger at this point - I measured myself against the string that we used at my baby shower to measure how big around I was, and I've only grown about an inch in circumference in a month. Anyway, here are some highlights:

1. Obviously alot happened in the past couple weeks, particularly last weekend - if you missed my post about my trip to the hospital, definitely go check it out.

Now that I think about the past couple weeks, I noticed swelling in my feet pretty frequently, which I haven't really had before. My feet are naturally bony (aren't you jealous? Just kidding!), so when they are swollen they don't even look swollen, but I can tell because they feel tight. And I see my feet every day, so I know when they aren't as bony as normal.

I also woke up a couple mornings with my fingers looking like sausages.

And the unusual weight gain - water weight, perhaps?

Yes, there were signs.

Like I said in my previous post, I still don't know if I have pre-eclampsia or not. I'll know on Wednesday though, and I'll do an update on Thursday - since I won't be working this week. My doctor told me I should take this week off.

In the meantime, I get to collect my urine for 24 hours starting this morning. Thrilling, I know.

2. I also had to cancel my appointment with the pediatrician today, (1) because it's supposed to snow alot, and (2) I'm supposed to be taking it easy, and (3) I didn't really want to make two trips to town in two days. So my appointment with the pediatrician is now scheduled for next Tuesday.

Therefore, the items relating to finding a pediatrician will not be crossed off my list before my deadline, which is this Thursday. Sigh. Oh well - I'm just glad that I have a bit more time before he arrives at this point. And everything that's really important is mostly finished, so I'll just be happy with that.

3. Harvey chewed up some of my nursery decorations and baby toys on Sunday while we were at my parent's house for the Superbowl. I came home and burst into tears, which I'm sure was just great for my blood pressure. This happened in addition to a little mishap earlier in which I broke another of the decorations for the room - so it was just a little overwhelming. We were able to piece the one thing back together (sort of), and my mom wants to take me shopping to replace a couple of the items, so I'll be happy with that too. I have the best mom, I tell you.

I'm planning on taking pictures of the nursery sometime this week so I can reveal it to you - even though I have a couple wall decor items that I won't be able to do until after he's born, so I'll most likely do some updated nursery shots after my little man arrives.

4. As far as Babykins goes, at my ultrasound last Wednesday I found out he's around 5 pounds 14 ounces! He's getting so big! That's a good weight to be born at, so my doctors are pretty pleased with that right now. He's also very low - when I went in for my appointment last Friday my doctor commented on how low down he was. He's a planner, just like me! He's still moving quite a bit too, which is reassuring considering my blood pressure issues.

I got some pictures from the ultrasound too, but it's kind of hard to distinguish his features at this point - and he's getting too big to get a good profile shot. I was wishing they could do a 3D picture again, but I didn't want to ask. I will say, it looks like he has the cutest little chubby cheeks! I can't wait to kiss them when he's born.

5. I can tell he's lower as well, because it's becoming pretty uncomfortable to lean forward. Well, it has been uncomfortable for weeks, but it's more uncomfortable now.

I also had an explosion of stretch marks on my lower belly - one day my belly was clear, and the next day I looked in the mirror and they were everywhere. It was a little depressing at first, but I'm resigned to it now. I hear they fade after pregnancy anyway, and it's not like anyone but Derek sees my stomach and he doesn't mind.

I'm also 1 cm dilated and 50-60% effaced, which I think is pretty exciting! And according to my monitoring at the hospital, I have plenty of Braxton-Hicks contractions - I just can't feel them at all.

6. Update: I talked with my doctor on the phone again after writing this, and I'm officially on modified bedrest this week. I already was planning to take it easy, but now I guess I feel like I really have to!

7. And here are the belly pictures! Taken in the hospital.
