Baby Smiles And Other Ramblings

Wyatt gave me his first real smile on Saturday, April 2nd.

I had just finished feeding him, and I had him laying on my lap. He was staring up at me contentedly, and I was playing with him. I tickled his tummy and his eyes crinkled and the corner of his mouth turned up.

I told Derek that I thought he just smiled at me, and Derek said that earlier that morning he had looked like he smiled at him while he was playing with him on his activity mat. He said his eyes had turned bright, and his mouth had turned up a little.

He's done it a few times since then too, so I think it was the real deal! I haven't caught it on camera yet, but it's pretty heart-stopping, let me tell you.

It looks like this, only imagine it bigger, with brighter eyes, and then imagine the feeling of a ray of sunshine piercing your heart - yes, it was like that.

Last night, Derek and Wyatt had "guy time" while I went out for dinner with my mom and sister. It was kind of fun for me to go on a "girl's night out" - I haven't done that since before he was born.

I came home and Wyatt was wide awake and happy. Derek said they had done some tummy time, worked out together (Derek worked out while Wyatt watched from his activity mat), and then watched some basketball together.

Derek is so good with Wyatt. It's easy for Wyatt to be wide awake and content when he's with his dad. For some reason, he tends to fall asleep if I hold him for any length of time.

They were just so cute together, sitting on the couch for their father/son time, so I had to take a picture.

In other news, tonight Derek and I are meeting Anne from Where Your Treasure Is, and her husband Derek, for dinner! I am so excited to meet her! I love these friendships that can be formed through blogging, and when you can officially meet it just adds to it. If you haven't checked out Anne's blog, you should. It always encourages me in my walk with the Lord.

I'm expecting the CD from our last newborn session to come in any time, and then there will be a whole new onslaught of Wyatt's cuteness on the blog! So keep your eyes peeled . . . oh, who am I kidding. I can't resist - here's a little cuteness to tide you over (not that you really need tiding, but one more picture of him can only make this post better, right? Right.).

We went on a family outing on Saturday, and we did some shopping and went to a movie. Wyatt definitely likes his carrier; he just falls fast asleep. And he likes his head back like that too - don't ask me why. It doesn't look too comfortable to me, but he's always leaning his head way back like that. Maybe so he can see my face? Anyway, I thought it was a cute picture of the three of us.

Moving on to a different topic . . .

Remember all those posts last fall about which color to paint our new bedroom? And I finally decided on Sagey, from Behr? Well, yes, we've been living in that room for quite some time now, and I've never posted pictures of the finished product. I finally got the last decorative details last week, so I'll finally be finishing off the decorating this week, and then I'll reveal it.

Plus, Derek and my dad have been working like madmen on our downstairs bathroom, and it's almost ready for use - details and pictures coming soon! Hint: it involves this tile (which actually has alot more green and yellow in it in person):

And cue the curtain (on this ridiculously random post) . . .
