Moms And Babies - Meghan

This week for Moms And Babies I'm featuring Meghan from My Beautiful Life! I found Meghan's blog a few months ago, and since then we've become good blog friends. I love reading about her adorable little boy, and her posts about her walk with the Lord are always challenging to me! Read on to learn more about her.

Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey friends! I'm Meghan, a wife to Dustin and a new mom to our five month old son Donovan. I am also a second grade teacher returning to work full time (yikes) in the fall. We live just outside of the San Diego area. My husband and I are both Christians. I gave my life to The Lord when I was 19 and have been growing, falling, getting back up, and learning every step of the way since.

What's your baby's name and how old is he?

Our son's name is Donovan James. You can read more about the name we chose for him here. Donovan is almost 6 months old.

Give us an idea of what a typical day looks like for you.

I've learned that just when I'm getting comfortable in a routine, our mini man likes to mix it up. He's always keeping me on my toes. As of right now, like this week, Donovan wakes up around 6:45. I get him out of his crib, feed & change him, and bring him to bed with me to cuddle until I feel like a functioning human being. The rest of the morning between 7 and 9ish includes: coffee, letting D jump in his jumparoo while I shower and get ready and do a few things around the house. He usually goes down for his first nap around 9:30. This is typically when I try to spend some time doing devotions and catching up on blogs. After he wakes up he eats, gets a new diaper, you know that routine... and then we're off to do whatever we have planned for the day: beach, errands, play date etc. I'm usually home by 4:00. When Donovan goes down for his afternoon nap I try to catch up on whatever’s on my to-do list for the day. The hubs gets home from work in the late afternoon. We hang out as a family and begin Donovan's night routine at 7:30. Bath, jammies, feeding. Around 8:00 I start cooking dinner. I know it's late, but it works for us… for now. The rest of the night is for Dustin and I to eat, hang out, watch tv, or read. And then off to sleep until the lovable chaos begins again.

If you had to choose three words to describe your baby's personality, what would they be?

Loving, silly, determined.

What's your favorite part about being a mom?

I really do love it all. I have always dreamed of being a mommy and I want to pinch myself every day. I just can't believe how lucky I am to have Donovan in my life. He is a gift and I am so grateful that God has entrusted us to be his parents. My favorite time of day with Donovan is probably rocking him to sleep at night. His eyes are heavy, it's quiet, and I'm able to reflect on how incredibly blessed I am to be his mom. There is something so endearing about a little one drifting off to sleep.

Do you have any tips on losing the baby weight?

Nope. Ha! It hasn't been easy for me. I seriously thought the weight would just melt off while I was breastfeeding and it did... at first. Until I hit a plateau. I think it's WORK. If you're motivated to lose it, you can. But I'm like a yo-yo. One week I'm doing great, eating healthy, walking Donovan, doing crunches and push-ups while he's in his jumparoo, The next day I'm scarfing down whatever I can get my hands on and way too lazy to even think about exercising. I gained about 45 pounds with my pregnancy and I've lost about 35 of it. Still eager to get that last 10 off for good. I'll get back to you on that. ;)

What have you and your husband done since your baby's arrival to keep your relationship strong?

We've been really bad about date nights. We've only been on 2 since Donovan was born. But we really value the time we have together after Donovan goes down for the night. Like I mentioned, I cook dinner late, so we'll eat dinner & have a glass of wine and just talk at the table for a long time without interruption. We spend the rest of the night either watching tv or a movie together or reading. It's our own version of date night, every night. I blogged a bit more about me and the Mr. post baby here.

Are there any must-have products that you would recommend to other moms?

I think every stage of development has different must-haves... I'm sure we'll have many more to come. Some of our biggest Godsends so far have been Donovan's swing, play mat, and jumparoo. All of these things have allowed Donovan to be occupied and entertained while I can get a few things done for myself or around the house. We also love swaddleme swaddles for nighttime and aiden & anais swaddle blankets for just about everything (nursing cover, stroller cover, tummy time blanket etc.)

What has been your favorite moment or outing as a family so far?

We just took Donovan for his first real day hanging out at the beach. It was so meaningful to me because the beach is my all time favorite place to spend time and I was raised living at the beach all summer long.

Any advice for first-time mothers?

I think new moms need to have realistic expectations. The first few months were really challenging for me, but it gets so much easier. Surround yourself with good friends and family that will be there for you even when you're cranky, exhausted, and feel like you might snap. And try your hardest to keep God a priority in the mix of it all. My devotional time fills up my soul each morning. I feel like a better momma and wife when I take the time and dedicate my day to Him. More about that here.

As the Momma to "the Momma", I can only share that Meghan is a gift ( a very precious gift). She has embraced being a Mom with love and grace.
I love that she centers her life around God ( and humbles me in that way). Dustin and Donovan are a blessing to Meghan, and she is a blessing for all of us.
