Eat More To Have A Boy?

I came across this article recently, and thought I'd share: Diet Before Pregnancy Can Affect Baby's Sex, New Research Suggests.

If you don't want to click through and read it yourself, basically it's about a study that suggests that women may play a part in which gender their babies are. The article says that women who had a higher caloric intake at the time of conception were more likely to have boys (56% as opposed to 45%).

The article didn't suggest any theories on how that exactly works, but it makes you wonder . . .

My experience fits into this theory. At the time when we were trying for Wyatt, I was trying to gain weight to get my Body Mass Index in the normal range. My caloric intake was pretty high.

I just thought this was interesting.

So maybe if you want to have a boy, you should go for that extra brownie?

What about you? Were you dieting or eating alot when you got pregnant with your baby? Did your experience match this study at all?

I would say I prove this study way wrong haha. I ate/eat a lot (in my opinion!) and I had a girl. I always thought it depended on the hubby?

We wanted a a boy first so we googled everything and tried to do all the things they said but with our first it turned out a girl, then on the next one same thing. We are well aware that God has our lives planne dout before we were even created so we knew that this was his plan and just stopped trying to override him so to speak. Then on the last try without doing anything but Prayer...he answered it and it was a boy. Now I wouldn't have it any other way! He def knew what he was doing!

I have always heard the woman has nothing to do with it-that the sperm either has male or female genetics. But interesting! I wasn't doing either at the time and we are having a girl, so maybe I fit? I certainly wasn't trying to GAIN weight at the time!!

I would say I was eating less than "average" when I got pregnant with our little boy! Since I can't do dairy anymore, my caloric intake is less and since it was after the holidays, I was behaving myself a little more :)

But who knows!

i was actually doing a lot of fasting when we got pregnant for the first time and we had our boy. i was eating very little when we got pregnant this time around and we'll find out in a few days what we've got, another boy or a girl!

I don't think it's true for me. I was a vegetarian when I got pregnant with my son, and I know I wasn't eating the normal amount of calories at least not to gain any weight. I find more truth in the Chinese gender chart, although it's still not always right (it was for us).

I feel like my caloric intake was pretty high, but I had a girl. But we weren't planning to get pregnant, so I wasn't paying attention yo stuff like that. :)

HA! there's no way this can be true :)

How interesting! With my experience, I was on vacation when I got pregnant and had attended the state fair just before becoming pregnant..both at which I was eating MORE than usual (good places brings good food..lol) but had a girl..so go figure!

I guess maybe I fit into this...I wasn't dieting, but before becoming pregnant I certainly wasn't a big eater, and a baby girl is on the horizon for us!

Oh how interesting!! I've had 3 boys now and I'm always eating a ton. I'm such a snacker. I have a fast metabolism, and work out regularly, so I'm always hungry. And always eating. Everything. I love food. Oooooh so interesting indeed!!

I have read this kind of thing before - interesting. This is the first month the hubs and I will start TTC, and we would love to have a little girl first... I have to say, I'm a little disappointed I can't have that brownie... ;)

I can't say mine did - I was in the middle of dieting. But I did hear if men drink caffeine it can help with having a boy - my honey loves his caffeine ;-)

I was still nursing Christian and losing my last few pounds of baby weight when I got pregnant with Eliza. With Christian though, I had lost 10 pounds in the year before getting pregnant. So who knows if it's true... :)

I'd say I was eating less...because I wanted to be in shape and thought it would help get pregnant...so I probably contradict this theory. :)

Too funny! I'm not sure how correct this was for me, unless you consider that perhaps I baked a lot of sweets over the winter and was nice and tanked up calorie wise for the spring. Ha!

I was at my heaviest when I got pregnant with Brayden- interesting!

Well, I'm a pretty big eater all the time (except for my good old morning sickness days) and I've got a little baby girl. So I'm now terrified to think of what I'll need to consume to give my hubby the boy he wants next.
