It's Valentine's Day, a day to celebrate love.  If you're married or in a relationship, it can be a pretty fun day.  If you're suffering from a broken heart, it can be a painful reminder.  If you're single, it's easy to cry "Bah humbug!" and ignore the holiday all together.

But really, I like to think of Valentine's Day as a day to show love to all those in your life, not just to a significant other - and I like to think of it as a day to remember God's incredible love for us.

I sat down yesterday to find a verse or two on the love of God, and though we all know some of the classic verses on God's love, this little section in Psalms stood out to me.

I think I liked this verse so much because it doesn't just focus on God's love - it focuses on who God is.  He is righteous.  He is just.  And He is also loving.  And I think those three elements really speak to why He is worthy of our praise, why it's worth it to spend our lives serving Him.

He is righteous.  He is holy.  He is everything that is right.  This can also be sobering because we (as in everyone who is alive) are not any of these things.

He is just.  He is good.  He can't just ignore our sin, because He is just, and He is holy.
But He also didn't wash His hands of us when we were lost because of our sin.  He did something about it.

He showed his love by dying on the cross to pay for those sins, so we wouldn't have to die and spend eternity enduring the consequences of our sin.

He didn't have to do that. He didn't have to die to save us. But He did it because He loved us, even when we rejected Him and went our own way.  He made a way for us to come back, if we'll just turn to Him.

I can't help but want to serve a God like that.  One who is holy, and good, and just - but who also loves us.  Enough to make a way to reconcile us to Himself, if only we'll just believe in His Son and follow Him.

I have never for a moment regretted giving my life to Him.  And as I was thinking about all that, one other verse came to mind, a verse that my Mom mentioned the other day.  It's not overtly about God's love, but to me, it is.

It's a comfort to me to know that Jesus loved me enough to die for me, and because of that I can know Jesus, and spend eternity with Him.

And because I know Him, He can be my refuge - and underneath everything He brings me through in this life, even through eternity, He is holding me.

He is holding me in His everlasting arms.

Nothing can make me feel more loved than that.

And just for fun. . .
