Three Go-To Looks For Early Fall

(Note: This post on pieces of clothing that work for warm early fall days was sponsored by NIC+ZOE.  All opinions are my own.)

August is upon us my friends, which means that fall is right around the corner!  I (like so many people) love the fall.  Not only do all the cozy flavors come out, but layers are back in as the weather gets cooler.

Except when it doesn't.

I have to admit, sometimes I really struggle with what to wear in the early fall, when the weather might still be sporting summer temperatures.  My heart says, "Boots!  Sweaters!  Scarves!"  But the weather says I'll be dying at ten o'clock in the morning if I listen to my heart.

So, today I wanted to share a few clothing items that will work for that weird month in between seasons, when nature can't quite make up it's mind.

Chambray Dresses

I bought myself a couple chambray dresses this year, and I am really excited to use them as we transition into fall.  Chambray is a light and airy denim.  It flows nicely, and wearing a chambray dress will still allow the breeze to cool me off on hot days; but at the same time, with a little styling, chambray can easily give the sense of the changing season too.  Here are a couple cute ones from a brand I was just introduced to, NIC+ZOE.

I plan to style a chambray dress layered with a cardigan or jacket on cooler days; or with no jacket, ankle booties, and a scarf on warm days.

Suede Leggings

Last year I got some faux suede leggings (really similar to these vegan ones), and I fell in love with them.

Suede is one of those fabrics that you wear in fall/winter, so on those fall days when it's too hot for long sleeves, faux suede leggings give that fall-ish feel without being overly heavy.  I would wear them with a loose and long patterned top like this one on warm fall days:

Fall Prints

When all else fails, look for some lightweight shirts, dresses, or even pants, in fall inspired prints!  For fall colors, I like brown, navy, plum, burgundy, gold, and coral.  Tribal inspired prints are also ones I like to bring out when the leaves start to change.  On days when the weather says I have to wear a tank top, I can pair a fall-like patterned shirt with boyfriend jeans and booties and still feel like I am looking to the season ahead.  These are a few prints from Nic+Zoe that I like for the fall.

Knit Jacquard Tunic - Think gold jewelry and booties with this.

Sahara Squares Tank and Artisan Block Layer Tank - Both of these would look adorable with distressed skinnies and brown booties.

Dashed Diamonds Twirl Dress and Tropicale Dress - I'd wear the first one with brown boots, gold jewelry, and a leather bag, and the second one would look great with a brown leather jacket if it was cool enough.

NIC+ZOE is a versatile brand - lots of options that work for summer or fall, and I also noticed that so many of their pieces can be dressed up or down!  They even have a whole line for "between season style", and I love all their gorgeous patterns!

I think the key is mixing fabrics that give a feeling of fall with styles that will still allow you to stay cool.  Mix in a little leather, or warm rose or yellow gold in your accessories, and you can still put together fall outfits that don't leave you sweltering on hot days!

What is your go-to piece for early fall?  How would you style the pieces in this post?

I feel like we are solidly in that awkward stage here already, both from day to day, and in the same day! In the mornings it's nice and cool, and by midday it's super hot! And yesterday it was really hot, and today it's quite mild. I just can't wait for fall weather (although I'm not ready to give up my easy summer life-schedule just yet, it feels like it just started!) I love the looks that you chose, so many pretty clothes! I especially love that last dress, that would look so good on you :)
