Clyde At Eleven Months

Note: For current pictures of Baby Clyde, stop by by my photo blog or sign up for my newsletter!

DSC 0948blog

Well, my itty bitty boy is less than a month away from being one year old!  How did this happen?

Clyde is just so much fun lately.  He has definitely been trying to communicate more, and he has tried to say several words.  His favorites are "dah" (dog), "dada", "hi", "bah" (bottle), and "mama"!  Yes, he now says "mama".  You have no idea how happy that makes me.  I do not know why, but my both my boys' first word was "dog"!  Clyde also babbles in the cutest little way right now, and I love it.

Clyde wants so badly to be able to keep up with Wyatt and Gwen - I can just see him watching them run around with longing in his eyes.  But he is well on his way!  This month he started pulling up on things, and now he pulls up to his feet!  This also leads to issues, like when he tries to pull up on an unstable chair, or when he somehow climbs out of his crib!  None of my kids have ever managed to climb out of their crib, until now.  But eleven months seems a bit early (ha!) to move him to a toddler bed, so I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again.

Clyde has been developing his sense of humor, and it is just hilarious when he really gets to laughing!  I love it.  He has also been paying games back at me, and "patty cake" was a big hit the other day.

He has officially become another blanket kid!  Wyatt and Gwen both have their favorite blankets, and now Clyde has his.  Thankfully he picked a blanket for which we have an almost duplicate, so I can wash one while he is using the other!  It is so cute how all my kids have their favorite blankets, but I am a little flabbergasted that none of them seem to be very into stuffed animals.  I was a teddy bear girl myself.

DSC 0954blog

Even though his doctor has repeatedly told me that he is in the 8% for weight, I didn't really believe it until this month.  I thought he seems to be the same size as Wyatt and Gwen were. But the child is eleven months old, and he still fits in some of his 3-6 month jeans!  I am curious to take him in for his 12 month appointment soon, so I can really compare his size with the other two at this age, because now I am not sure!

DSC 0902blog

Sleep has been so much better over the last month or so - usually he just wakes up at 4:00 AM, and then he'll go back to sleep until 7:00 or 8:00.  I can deal with that!  I actually don't mind the 4:00 feeding, because it gives us good early-morning snuggle time.

His hair is getting a bit long, but it curls around his ears, and I just can't bear to cut it!  I want to wait until after we take some one-year-old pictures, because I just love the way it curls.

DSC 0947blog

I am busy trying to figure out what to do for his first birthday party - I think I have finally picked a theme, and as you read this I am probably at Hobby Lobby picking up some supplies!  First birthdays are fun, but this whole year seemed to go by too fast.

---

My Sweet Clyde,

I can't believe how big you are getting!  I can see more and more of your personality developing every day, and it is so much fun.  You are such a happy baby, and we get comments from the church nursery workers all the time about how smiley you are.  You love when people talk to you or play with you - and you are most unhappy when you think you have been left alone or ignored.  You are getting so much more playful, and the other day you leaned forward into my face with your little eyebrows raised, trying to make me laugh (and you succeeded).  I just love watching you grow, sweet boy.

Love Always,

Mama

Clyde At Ten Months

DSC 0831blog

My sweet Clyde is 10 months old!

I just had a weird moment where I forgot how we got here.  Didn't he just turn six months?  There is no way he is 10 months, right?  Maybe I should recount.

Mr. Clyde is just so much fun!  He has the cutest little personality, and I can't believe how much his looks have changed over the last couple months.  He has four teeth now, and I suspect he is working on more!  He has the cutest little gap between his upper two front teeth, just like Gwen's, and it is adorable.  His hair is growing longer, and even though I should probably cut it, I can't bear to yet because I love the little curls above his ears.

His favorite "word" is "a-dat".  He says it for everything that he doesn't know the name for.  I still cannot get him to say "mama"!  Which is ironic, since I know he loves me.   I am convinced that sometimes he wakes up in the night just because he misses me.

He has become an expert scooter, and he wiggles his way all over the house.  He gets around really well, and even though I'm not sure what day it actually happened, he has figured out how to pull up onto his knees.  He is perfectly content crawling around, as long as he sees other people around him - he hates being alone.  If he can't see me or the kids, he gets upset.  He was happy as a clam crawling around on the floor at Wyatt's birthday gathering a couple weeks ago, just because there were people everywhere.

He still scrunches his nose when he is especially happy, and he loves his bottle.  If he sees it and he can't reach it, he will cry until you give it to him.  Sometimes he doesn't even drink out of it, he just chews on it.

He is shaping up to be a blanky kid too, just like his brother and sister.  He loves his soft blanket, and he has started to want it before he goes to sleep.  He was upset before bed the other night, until I gave him his blanket - then he grabbed it, snuggled it up to his face, closed his eyes, and grinned.

He has the cutest little face when he is scared or nervous - it is like a cross between a smile and a grimace, with his little neck muscles tensed, and you can see that he can't decide whether to laugh or cry.  Usually we coax him to laugh, because that little face is so cute that Derek and I can't help but laugh!  That sounds so mean, but you just have to see his face - it is so cute.

Lately if he sees Derek or me, or gets excited, he does this heavy, excited breathing, like a pant.  It is so cute and hilarious!  It makes us chuckle every time.

The other day he gave me a real, honest-to-goodness, on-purpose kiss!  I was sitting with him on the couch and I gave him a kiss - then he smiled, pressed his mouth against my cheek, and said "MMMAA"!  He has given me baby "kisses" before, but this was the first one that he made the noise, and I had no doubt that it was an intentional kiss.  He has done it a couple times since then, and I love it so much!

-----

Mr. Clyde,

If I had to describe the last month with you, I would just say it has been so fun!  You have always been a happy baby, but now that you can move around more on your own, you are more content.  You love exploring, and I love watching you develop your curiosity.  Your two front teeth have really come in, and I just love that little gap-tooth baby grin!  Your little belly laugh is one of my favorite sounds.  I feel so blessed to be your mama, sweet boy, and it is so fun watching you grow and even learn to communicate things more.  I can't wait for the day when I hear you say "mama"!

I love you more than all the pine needles on all the evergreen trees in the world.

-Your Mama

Clyde At Nine Months

DSC 0272blog

Clyde is now nine months old!

This month Clyde weighed in at about 17 lbs at his office visit.  He is in 6-9 month clothes, but probably not for much longer.  H e is a size 3 shoe and a size 3 diaper now.

This last month has just been so fun - Clyde got both of his lower teeth in right around Thanksgiving, and his two upper teeth came in right at Christmas!  I think his little tooth grin is the cutest thing.  He isn't crawling on all fours yet, but he is starting to scoot crawl.  He has been sleeping through the night much more often, so I think we are finally past the eight month growth spurt!

His big thing this month is looking at people's teeth.  Anytime I pick him up he just grins at me and tries to touch my teeth.  I can't talk without him sticking his fingers in my mouth.  There have been times when he gets both his little pointer fingers hooked in my mouth, and he has such a serious look on his face that he reminds me of a little dentist!  You never know.

His laugh has become even more cute, if that's possible.  He has such a cute little belly laugh, and then he ends on a hiccup laugh, and I love it.  He laughs most when someone "surprises" him (he likes it best if he knows the "surprise" is coming.

Clyde has always hated being alone, and it is still that way - if he thinks everyone left the room, he gets upset.  He likes to see where everyone is.  He is thrilled when Gwen and Wyatt come over to play with him, and they are so good with him.  Clyde is really into his toys, and he loved all the new ones he got for his first Christmas!

He defnitely loves his Daddy, and we think he has already said his first words Daddy and dog.  They both sound like "dah", but with Derek he'll say "Dah, dah" or "Dah, dee".  He is always looking at either Derek or the dogs when he makes those noises, so I think it is intentional!  No "mama" yet, though I've been working overtime on it.  *sigh*

DSC 0099blog

I am still his favorite person though - if he has a choice, he'll choose me to hold him, though he okay with other people too.  But if he can see me, he would rather have me holding him.  If I am gone during the day at work and he doesn't get some quality time with me before bed, he doesn't sleep well.  I think he fusses at night sometimes just because he wants me to come hang out with him.

I remember Wyatt and Gwen having stages where they wanted to be with me most, but Clyde's has definitely lasted the longest.  I have to say, I love it!  I love that he knows I'm his mama and wants to be with me.  It melts all those little places in my heart.  If he is my last baby, I am so glad that likes to hang out with me best, and I am going to enjoy every second of it - even the midnight seconds.

-----

Baby Clyde,

What a cutie you are!  It's hard to even describe how adorable you are, and your little grins and giggles make my heart jump.  I love that you like to hang out with me, and I love what a cheerful little guy you are.  Lately when you are happy to see me, you give me your classic, four-toothed grin, and then you scrunch your nose.  Sometimes you smile and give me a little eyebrow raise, like we have some fun little secret between us.  And I get that little leap of joy somewhere inside.  I love you sweet boy.  I am so glad you are mine.

Love you always,

Mama

A Crazy Year

The year is coming to a close, and 2014 has been a big, crazy year for us!  When I think about where we were a year ago, it's hard to believe how much has changed since then.  This year we have gone from expecting a baby, to having a newborn, from employment, to unemployment, to better employment, from a sporadic, uncertain schedule to a fixed, predictable schedule.  Every year since we've been married has felt like a big year to me, but I'm not sure we've had this level of change in the span of one year before.

January

G 1 Year 087blog

We celebrated Gwen's first birthday party!  She turned one year old in December, but we had her party in January - you can read about Gwen at one year old, her winter first birthday party, her birthday punch recipe, and a fun birthday decoration project I did with Wyatt for Gwen.

I was 7 months pregnant with Clyde!  Check out my 26 Week and 28 Week updates.

I was working on a ton of baby projects, like stuff Clyde's quilt and nursery.

I fell on some ice and had to take an unexpected trip to the hospital.  Baby Clyde was fine!

On the blog - I continued my "From One To Two" series on going from one baby to two - maybe it's time for me to write about going from two to three?

I hit 38 weeks pregnant!  The countdown was on.

We were worried Derek would be gone when I went into labor, and we were praying the Lord would work everything out so he could be there!

I had some false labor, which did not help my anxiety.

Clyde was born on April 11th!  It was a great natural hospital birth experience (birth story part one and two).

We celebrated Easter with a one week old baby.

Clyde turned two weeks old.

On the blog - I posted ideas for a toddler's Easter basket.

We had a "staycation", and it was lovely.

I was in my cousin's wedding as a bridesmaid.

We celebrated our six year anniversary.

I made some striped curtains and posted about it!

Clyde turned four months old.

The crisis of Christians being persecuted in Iraq was on the news more, and I wrote about three ways to help Christians in Iraq (which is still mostly applicable, so check it out).

I had a post featured on Tommy Nelson and FaithGateway about fighting selfishness in little ones.

On the blog - I posted about my June Cleaver moment.

September

Photo 2 14 2

Clyde turned five months old, and Gwen turned 21 months old.

We threw a fall-themed party, just for fun!

I wrote on Tommy Nelson about reading aloud to your kids.

I think my loneliness with having Derek gone so much hit an all-time high this month.  It was just hard not having him here.

I started feeling overwhelmed and cut back on the blog a bit.

I started playing with watercolors (and it's till something I wish I had more time for, because it's fun!).
I went on a trip to Nashville to meet up with the other Top Tommy Nelson Mommies!  It was a wonderful trip!

On the blog - I wrote about that time I got off Facebook for nine months, and then got back on Facebook.

October

Meandderek

Clyde turned six months, and after a struggle with my supply we finally stopped nursing.  We also started feeding him solids, and he loved it!

We went to a costume birthday party and had a fun time.

I had a girl's night out with some friends for the first time in a while!  We made burlap wreaths (if you follow me on Instagram, you know all this.)

I wrote about studying and memorizing the book of Hebrews! (I am still working on it - I'm finally getting into Chapter five, with the memorizing and the studying.  I'll do another verse recitation video soon!)

On the blog - The story of a dear blog friend, Natalie, inspired me to write a post about ways to support adoption without adopting.

November

DSC 0425 2blog

Clyde turned seven months old.

We went to my friend Heather's wedding!

I started Christmas shopping.

Derek went elk hunting, but didn't get anything this year.

I came up with a solid plan for updating my house (it needs it - the decor and furniture basically hasn't been touched in 3-6 years, depending on which room we are talking about). I made a home wish list of inspiration.  I love this post about why it's okay to want your home to be pretty - it captures my recent feelings exactly!

I wrote about our bedtime routine, which I know will be fun to look back on.

Clyde celebrated his first Thanksgiving outside the womb!  He had sweet potatoes for the first time and loved it.

I wrote on Tommy Nelson about making Black Friday a blessing.

On the blog - I wrote a post for Thanksgiving about five things I want to teach my kids to be thankful for.

December

DSC 0531edit

We started the month unemployed.  I worked a few extra days at work to help with the finances.

Clyde turned eight months old.

I started a blog newsletter (which you should sign up for if you haven't - I'm giving away free printables!).

We had a fun day of Christmas surprises with the kids - crafts and cookies and books!  I tried to slow down in December, despite all the extra working, to enjoy Christmas with my littles.

Derek got a new job!  He starts right after the New Year, and we are treating these few weeks together like a vacation (except without going anywhere, and without spending money - it's still fun).

We celebrated Christmas, Clyde's first on the outside!  Unfortunately, all four of my people got sick between Christmas Eve and the Day after Christmas, so that was kind of sad.  I seemed to have escaped it.

We celebrated Gwen's 2nd birthday and Derek's birthday (same day).  I decorated, we ate cake and opened presents, then rented a movie for Derek and me to watch after the kids went to bed.  Everyone was still sick, so we kept it low-key.

Spent New Year's Eve together!

On the blog - I posted lots of recipes!  Including Holly Jolly Coffee, Pecan Coconut Orange Fudge, and Snowdrop Cookies.

-----------

Looking back at 2014, I can't believe what a crazy year it was!  A lot happened, some things I was planning, some things that I wasn't planning.  Looking at 2015, I just feel - unsure.  For the last several years I had some idea of how the year was going to go, or how I wanted it to go, but in 2015 - I don't have any specific plans, which is kind of a first.  I guess we'll just see what the Lord has planned!  His plans are always better than mine anyway.

Happy New Year, Friends!

Stay tuned about a post about my word for the New Year.

A Day Of Christmas Surprises

I have a feeling Christmas time is just going to get more and more fun as the kids get older.  This year Wyatt especially is really aware of what is going on, and he is so excited about his presents.
I want Wyatt and Gwen to appreciate other things beside presents at Christmas time, so I decided to plan a fun "surprise" day for us.  Both Wyatt and Gwen are so into "surprises" lately, and I thought it would be fun to do something special for them as Christmas approaches.

Photo 19blog

First up, we made Snowdrop cookies!  These are some of my favorite Christmas cookies, and I thought they went with the wintery theme I was going for.  I shared the Snowdrop Cookies recipe last week, in case you want to try them yourself!

Photo 5 20blog

Photo 4 20blog
Photo 3 22blog

After our cookies, I had a plan to make "snow dough" for the kids.  I had a mix for homemade play doh that I got from MOPS last year, so I used that - then I realized it was actually pink, not white, and it seemed a little sticky.  I was ready to call the recipe a bust, so I broke out some white Play Doh and added some glitter to it for our "snow dough".  Then I realized that I could thicken up our homemade attempt with some flour, so we used that too!  I have to ay that it smelled good, and it was nice knowing that if Gwen ate any it wouldn't be bad for her.

Photo 5 19blog

Photo 2 30blog

At first we made snowmen, and I used a toothpick to make a smiley face on them.  Then Wyatt commandeered my toothpicks and made his own creation - he is so artsy.  Gwen got in on the action too!

Photo 2 31blog

Photo 3 26blog

To top off our fun day, I pulled out one of our new books from Tommy Nelson, "A Star For Me".  In this book, a young camel named Ollie sees a new star in the sky, and he is just sure that God has a surprise planned for him!  He and his family take off across the desert to see what gift God has for them.

Photo 1 25blog

This book is so sweet.  I new Wyatt and Gwen would appreciate it, since they love their own "surprises".  One thing I really liked was that Ollie counts his own blessings as he is traveling to find his new surprise.  It's been my goal this year to try to impress upon the kids the blessings that we already have, instead of just focusing on presents, so I like that this was incorporated into the book.

Photo 3 22blog

And of course, the best Christmas present in the world is Jesus himself.  More than anything, I have been trying to teach the kids about Jesus's birthday, and the gift that Jesus gave us by being born so he could save us from our sins.  This book ended with the message of Jesus as the greatest gift of all, and I love it for that.

Overall, I think the kids enjoyed our day of fun, and I had fun thinking of little things they would enjoy!  I might have to do another "surprise day" for them again soon.

Photo 4 17blog

(Gwen was feeding Clyde and reading him a "buh-bul stoh-wee".  She is so cute.)

For more cute pictures of our day of surprises, check out my Instagram or my photo blog!

Note: I received a copy of "A Star For Me" from Tommy Nelson for free in exchange for this review.  This is my honest opinion.

Clyde At Eight Months

DSC 0240blog copy

Clyde is 8 months old!  He is officially an older baby.  It makes me kind of sad.

This month was a big month for Clyde - he learned to get up on his hands and knees on his seven month birthday, and since then he has gotten more and more comfortable with it.  He has moved his legs forward and his arms forward, but just not all at once yet.  He is so close to learning to crawl!  He loves being on his hands and knees and looks so proud of himself as he rocks back and forth.  He also does this little hop sometimes to get his knees underneath him, and it is so cute.

DSC 0771blog

Clyde also got his lower two front teeth!  He got the first one on November 29th, and the second on December 3rd.  He seems to be proud of his two front teeth, and he grins and runs his tongue over them all the time.

DSC 0325blog

Clyde is still loving his solid food, and he eats more than either Wyatt or Gwen did at this age.  He especially enjoys his baby food, and he gets upset if we forget to feed him.  We've got him up to three meals a day.  The other day we decided to see how much he would eat before he was done, and we counted three bowls of oatmeal and a baby food jar of apples!  He is also on formula, and takes probably 5-6 8 oz. bottles a day. We gave him his first Mum Mum "cookie" on Thanksgiving, and he enjoyed it - but instead of gumming it and letting it dissolve, he kept chomping down on it and breaking off big chunks, so I think we're going to have to find a more sturdy cookie for him.

Sleep is a little all over the place - he usually goes a 7-8 hour stretch, but it might be from 7-2, and then we still have to wake up in the night to feed him.  I am working on weaning him off his 2:00 feeding, because he is old enough that he could probably drop it.  I think he wakes up at that time more for snuggles than anything.  Which I kind of love, but it would be nice to sleep a little longer too.

I've been working more since Derek has been unemployed, and I can tell Clyde doesn't like not seeing me as much during the day.  Some days he just won't be pleased until I pick him up and spend a little time with him.  He goes to sleep quicker at night if I lay him down.

His personality is just adorable!  He is always so happy, and he smiles so quickly.  His new smile with his two little teeth just melts my heart! Sometimes if you pay attention to him he'll give you this grin and lift his eyebrow at you - it is the cutest little expression.  He still sticks his tongue out sometimes when he smiles, and I love it.

-----------

My Sweet Clyde,

I cannot believe how old you are getting!  It seems like just yesterday that you were born.  You are such a sweetheart, my boy, and everyone loves your little personality.  I would call you social, but a little bashful too.  When I am holding you and people talk to you, you lay your head against my shoulder and give a big grin.  I can tell when you are in a playful mood, because I'll say hi to you and you'll grin, stick out your tongue, and raise your little eyebrows - it is such a mischievous little look.  When you are tired at night, or before your nap, I can tell because you will relax against me, and then your little fingers will grab my arm or collarbone, and you just gently pinch and need my skin with your little hand.  It's the cutest thing, and my signal that it is time to lay you down.  Every now and then you will still fall asleep in my arms, and as I look at your little face I can see the hints of the toddler to come, but I can also see my tiny little newborn hidden in your face.  It's happy and sad to me, because I know we have so many fun times ahead, but I also know that the baby will fade out of you all too quick.  I'm glad you are still my baby for a while longer.

I love you more than all the snowflakes in all the winters.

Love,
Your Mama

Holly Jolly Coffee

Hollyjollycoffee2

Christmas time is officially upon us!  We actually decorated for Christmas a little early this year.  Usually we wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving, but this year we decorated the weekend before.  Wyatt and Gwendolyn enjoyed putting the ornaments on the tree, and I love the little clusters of ornaments on the lower branches.

In honor of the start of Christmas season, I wanted to share a recipe for Holly Jolly Coffee!  My mom re-introduced me to Holly Jolly Coffee last year, and it is the perfect hot drink for this time of year.  I like it almost as much as peppermint mochas!

Hollyjollychristmascoffee

Holly Jolly Coffee

1 cup of hot coffee
1 hot chocolate mix packet
1/4 tsp. orange extract
Whipped cream (optional)

1.  First off, you should brew yourself a pot of hot coffee - whatever strength you like.

Hollyjollycoffee

2. Pour hot chocolate mix into a mug.  Pour in hot coffee and mix well.

3.  Add in the orange extract and stir.

4.  I like topping mine with whipped cream, and a dusting of cocoa powder makes it pretty.

Hollyjollycoffee3

It is a super-easy recipe, but so good!  I think it seems so Christmasy to me because of the orange flavor.  Anything orange reminds me of Christmas.  It's perfect for Christmas decorating, or Christmas card addressing, or present wrapping, or anything else Christmas related!

Clyde At Seven Months

Clyde is seven months old!  It feels like the last month has gone by really fast.

DSC 6528blog

This was a big month for Clyde - we started solid foods!  We got kind of a late start because of a stomach bug.  He was barely eating r a whole week, and he was more fussy than normal.  I was really worried that he was developing milk sensitivity, but then it seemed to clear up a bit, so I started him on rice cereal.

Oh my goodness, he loved it!  He knew what to do right away and practically dove at the spoon.  With the other two I felt like they took a little time to figure out how to swallow, but he just gulped it right down.  He is a very enthusiastic eater, and it's just adorable!  We got his first taste of solids on camera, and I'm so glad we did, because it was so cute.  We've also tried green beans so far, and he likes those too.  He is already used to eating his solid food, and he is more fussy if I forget to feed him his cereal!

He is growing out of a lot of his six month clothes now, and when we took him for his checkup he was 26 inches long and almost 16 lbs.  He is wearing size 2 shoes, and size 2 diapers.

He is very interested in his toys, and he still attempts to scoot toward his toys when he can't reach them.  So far he usually ends up scooting backward, but this week (11/11) he got up on his hands and knees all by himself!  We made a big deal of it, and he looked so proud.  I was impressed that he figured this out, because the other two figured out a scoot-crawl first, and then got up on their hands and knees - but Clyde figured out the hands and knees thing first!  I am excited for him to learn to crawl, but I also am having a hard time with him growing so fast.

DSC 6515blog

As Clyde is getting bigger, he is playing with Wyatt and Gwen so much more.  They take such good care of him, and they like to play with him.  Sometimes they get Clyde laughing so hard, and it's just adorable!  He has this clear, throaty-sounding laugh, and I love it.  One of the best sounds in the world.

I think we are almost done with nursing, and it's bitter sweet for me.  With the other two I decided when to wean, and this time it's just kind of happening without my having as much of a say in it.  Clyde doesn't want to nurse as much, and my supply is going away.  We had a couple sweet times when he was sick and wanted the comfort, and I'll always remember those moments with him, because it's been more difficult to nurse since then.  We still get good snuggles in when I feed him a bottle though.

DSC 6526blog

Clyde has these cute little quirky things that he does - one of them is sticking his tongue out and curling it.  It's so funny and cute!  He also rolls his tongue around a lot while he is eating, and I love watching him eat.  His thing lately has been nodding his head.  He'll just randomly start nodding his head up and down.  I'm not sure where he figured out how to do that, or why he does it, but it's funny when you are talking to him and he starts nodding his head!

He is still my little buddy, and likes to hang out with me best, but he is becoming more happy to be held by other people (as long as he still knows where I am).  He has such an adorable dimpled grin, and he almost always smiles at everyone who looks at him!  He wins everyone over with his little grins.  I think his personality is more of a shy ham - he likes it when people pay attention to him, as long as he is in a comfortable situation.  I am loving watching his personality develop!

My Sweet Clyde,

I can't believe how much you have grown!  You have gone from my little tiny baby who didn't want to be held by anyone but me, to this sweet, social baby who always seems to steal the show without even trying.  Your little smiles light up my day, and it's hard to even feel tired or stressed when you give me a happy grin.  I love how you are understanding and enjoying games more and more, and your little laughs are the cutest things!  You have such a sweet, almost humble personality, and I think you will be one of those people whom everyone can't help but like.  I love you Baby Boy, and I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for you as you grow up (but just don't grow up too fast).

Love Always,

Your Mama
