Despite not getting much done in January, one area that was above average was the amount of books I read! I read eleven books in January. My record is twelve books in one month, so this was pretty close! Here are the books I read, and brief thoughts about them.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson - This was our read aloud from December that we finished up in January. The Herdmans are the worst kids in town, and when they decide they want all the major parts in the church Christmas pageant, drama ensues. My kids thought this book was hilarious, and we all liked the end when the Herdmans start to see the true meaning of Christmas, and inadvertently help everyone else see it too. Content notes: Some mean names, I just edited them out as I was reading it.

And that's it for January! Remember, if you fill out the survey in this post (make sure to include your email), you will be entered to win one of these books, or one of the books I finish in February! You can sign up for my newsletter if you want a sneak peek of the books I'm going to attempt to finish in February (no guarantees, but I'll try!).
Have you read any of the books I read in January? What did you think? Am I the only one who hasn't read The Lord Of The Flies until now? What have you been reading this month?

Over the weekend I deleted Instagram from my phone.
Honestly, even aside from the privacy policy changes, this has been a long time coming for me. I have found myself moving away from social media in tiny increments over the course of this year. That's probably another post for another day.
One thing I will miss, though, about Instagram is being able to jump on and chat through video to those of you who I've connected with over there. It was nice to be able to speak out those little thoughts or random topics that I want to share, but that aren't worthy of a whole blog post yet.
So, I decided find a replacement - I'm going to try something new on the blog and post an occasional chatty video. In this one I ramble while wrapping a few Christmas presents. If you have some wrapping left to do yourself, we can pretend we're wrapping presents together!
Topics covered:
-My present wrapping system, and how I organize the present opening on Christmas Day.
-A little musing about 2020, and how we should really be counting our blessings, because there have been MUCH worse years in the past. See the first half of the 20th century.
-Books, of course! Including why I always get bogged down in the middle of The Two Towers, and other random books I'm reading or hope to read soon.
Let me know if you watch the video or if I should skip these in the future, and also tell me:
(1) if you have a present wrapping system,
(2) one good thing that has happened to you this year, or
(3) a book you are reading!

The Prayer That Turns The World Upside Down by R. Albert Mohler Jr. is a book that focuses on the Lord's prayer, and specifically why this prayer was so radical in Jesus's time (and now as well!). Mohler takes each line of Jesus's prayer in Matthew, and explains it in detail, including the theological truths that Jesus was communicating through each line. I honestly never thought about the actual theology communicated through the Lord's prayer, even though I've had it memorized since I was a child.
I found this book not only fascinating, but also very practical when it comes to figuring out WHAT to pray. So often I get stuck in praying about things that feel trivial, and then not really knowing what else to say. The Lord's prayer is a wonderful basis for directing us to the things we truly should be praying for, and this book really inspires you to actually spend time praying about the things that Jesus told the disciples to pray. After each chapter I found myself closing my eyes and taking a minute to apply what I was learning.
Note: I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher in exchange for a review. This is my honest opinion.

3/5 stars.
